In the past, dog whistles were mainly used for hunting dogs - the trill served as a stop signal at which the dog lay down, the double whistle as a come signal - but in recent years signal whistles have also become popular with the majority of pet dog owners.
A whistle makes it easy to establish contact with the dog even over long distances and in disturbing environmental conditions (wind, rustling leaves). The respective signal sounds loud and clear and is not overlaid by the handler's emotional state (anger, fear, rage), as is often the case with verbal commands.

The ACME dog whistles are made of plastic and are frequency standardised. Each whistle has an embossed number which stands for a certain tone or frequency. The whistle signals are always clear and distinct, even the trill cannot be overblown. The mouthpieces of these dog whistles are sufficiently long and have a small end bead to be held comfortably in the mouth.
